Editorial
If you have ever sat in a waiting room, opened a brown envelope from the hospital, or read a result on the patient app and felt your heart rate quicken, this magazine is for you. CURACO + is the third title in the CURACO series, and the first written entirely outwards. Toward you. Toward your family. Toward the people who do not work in healthcare but live with its decisions every day.
We have spent decades watching health information arrive in two extreme forms. On one side, leaflets so cautious that nothing useful is actually said. On the other, the open internet, where any question lands you somewhere between a wellness influencer and a worst case scenario. Neither serves the person trying to understand what is happening in their own body, in their own appointment, in their own life.
The nineteen articles gathered here apply the same CURACO framework you may know from our AI and X editions, Clinical Safety, Understanding through Awareness, Research-Informed, Authentic First Principles, Conscientious Ethics, Optimised Technology, to the everyday questions of being a patient. How sleep actually works. What a test result means and what it does not. Why loneliness is a measurable medical risk. What chronic pain really is. How to find the door into the NHS when nobody has shown you where it is.
We assume you are intelligent, curious, and tired of being talked down to. We will not patronise you. We will not sell you anything. We will tell you what the evidence says, in plain English, and trust you to make your own decisions. That is what a magazine for patients should have looked like all along.
